Buchecha's Rolling Armbar: A BJJ Breakdown

side-control Gi & No-Gi

The rolling armbar starts from top side control. When your opponent turns away to escape or to kill your points, use that momentum instead of fighting it. As their top arm crosses, capture it and keep it pinned to your chest. Step your near foot over their belly, the same step you would use to climb into technical mount. Then roll forward over your own shoulder in the direction they are already turning.

The captured arm is your steering wheel. It controls how fast they spin, so they cannot bail out early, and it keeps you glued to their back through the roll. The leg you planted across the belly carries them over with you. You come out the far side, they land on their back, and you arrive seated in the armbar.

Drill it in layers. Because the roll travels over your shoulder, tuck your chin and start slow, or you will tweak your neck. Capture the arm before you commit. Keep that shin heavy across the belly. Stay connected to the back the whole way. The roll gets you there. A patient armbar finishes it.
