Seonghae Wilson: British Champion and BJJ Black Belt
Seonghae Wilson earned her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt the hard way: over a decade on the mat, a British title as a brown belt, and training straight through pregnancy and motherhood.
Words: Jiu Jitsu Style
A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt usually takes ten years or more of steady training, and Seonghae Wilson earned hers the hard way. She started at Radgie Rollers in Carlisle back in 2013 and spent well over a decade climbing the belts. Along the way she did something most people never manage: as a brown belt, she became a British champion, testing her Jiu Jitsu against the best in the country before finishing the climb to black.

Training through pregnancy and motherhood
The part of her story that stands out most is that she kept training through pregnancy and motherhood instead of setting it aside. While expecting her son, she adapted her training as her pregnancy went on, then picked it back up afterward. New parenthood is one of the most common points where people drift away from the mat for good. Wilson found a way to keep the thread intact, and the black belt at the end of it speaks to years of real persistence through the busiest season of life.
Growing the women's game
Now she is turning that work outward. Alongside her own training, she helps bring new people into the sport through women-only classes built to give beginners a welcoming place to start. A first class is intimidating for anyone, and a friendly, dedicated environment removes a real barrier for women trying Jiu Jitsu for the first time. She is, as it happens, the first woman in Cumbria to reach black belt, which gives every woman and girl training in that corner of England a local example to point to.
Congratulations to Seonghae Wilson on a black belt a decade in the making, and on using it to bring others along behind her. That is exactly the kind of Jiu Jitsu we love to celebrate. See you on the mats.
